Thai yoga massage is an adaptation of Thai Massage from the floor to the massage couch. Thai Massage is more energising and rigorous than most classic Western forms of massage. It is also called Thai Yoga Massage, because the therapist moves the client into a series of yoga-like stretches, like a ‘lazy yoga’. The client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used.
Thai Massage is one of the four branches of Thai medicine (alongside herbal medicine, nutrition and spiritual practices) based on the theory that energy travels through the body along 72,000 pathways called Sen lines, originating at the navel and somewhat analogous to meridians or Channel in Chinese medicine or Indian Nadis. The therapist manipulates major Sen lines by pressing certain points along them. Yoga-like stretches are intended to stimulate the Sen and move the energy or life force through the body through a pumping action connected with the client’s breathing.
Table Thai Massage is a holistic treatment offering the added benefit of depth and stretching to those who carry tension, balancing breath and improving circulation. It is also ideal for clients who prefer to remain fully dressed, while enjoying a full-body treatment.
