Humanistic Counselling is based upon the philosophy that each person knows themselves best, and a Humanistic counsellor will work from the basis of understanding you and your life as best they can before working alongside you to find different perspectives, solutions or enlightenment you’re looking for. Above all, Humanistic counsellors place primary importance on the working relationships with clients – as this is the major tool used to facilitate the discovery of solutions.
These sessions are offered on a one-to-one basis, for around one hour. Sometimes other techniques could be brought in, if appropriate to help explore things further, like drawing, visualisation, using representative objects or discussing psychological theory.
Humanistic Counselling is suitable for anyone wishing to explore something that’s troubling them, or as a tool for self-development. Some of the issues that it helps with are:
• Alcohol & Drug recovery
• Depression/Stress/Anxiety
• Relationship issues
• Major life changes, including work, behavioural, thought pattern and lifestyle changes
• Young People's issues, including finding your identity and family/peer issues,
• Transvestism, identity issues
• Working with counselling students requiring statutory counselling hours
• Major life losses, bereavement & terminal illness
